Former President Donald Trump began posting on the platform formally known as Twitter again on Monday, just hours before he was scheduled to do an interview with X CEO Elon Musk.

However, Trump’s return to the social media website that propelled his 2016 presidential campaign did not do any favors to the share price of the parent company of his own Truth Social media platform.

Shares of Trump Media and Technology Group sunk by more than five percent in trading on Monday and, as of this writing, they are trading in the $24 range.

One year ago, Trump posted his mugshot. Before that, he hadn’t posted in two years but now he is back and better than ever, and his posts are already getting more reactions than the Kamala campaign couldn’t even dream of.

Trump’s first video has only been up for several hours and already has nearly 15 million views, 304,000 likes, and 100,000 retweets. Comparatively, Kamala posted a video last night and it only has 5 million views, 25,000 likes, and under 10,000 retweets.

When someone is popular it goes without saying, which is why the media pandering is even more pathetic and obviously a lie.

The difference in messaging is also interesting, as Trump focuses on making America great and fighting for the people, while Kamala focuses on not being Trump with divisive lies that don’t even make sense and no one cares about.

An incredible sight has overtaken a field near Guazhou County in China’s Gansu Province: almost 30,000 moving mirrors pointed at two huge central towers. This is China’s new dual-tower solar thermal plant, Interesting Engineering reports.

Solar panels that convert sunlight into electricity are becoming a familiar sight all over the world. Solar thermal energy is a little different.

Instead of using solar panels, this new plant uses its thousands of mirrors — each reflecting up to 94% of the light that hits them — to focus a huge amount of sunlight onto the relatively small area of the towers, Interesting Engineering explains. That produces an incredible amount of heat — so much that similar solar-gathering methods can be used for smelting.

Like coal-fired and nuclear power plants, the solar thermal power plant uses the heat to turn water into steam. The rising steam then turns turbines, which generate electricity.

As global warming intensifies, people increasingly suffer from extreme heat. For those working in a high-temperature environment indoors or outdoors, keeping thermally comfortable becomes particularly crucial. A team led by Dr Dahua SHOU, Limin Endowed Young Scholar in Advanced Textiles Technologies and Associate Professor of the School of Fashion and Textiles of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has developed first-of-its-kind thermally-insulated and breathable soft robotic clothing that can automatically adapt to changing ambient temperatures, thereby helping to ensure worker safety in hot environments. Their research findings have been published in the international interdisciplinary journal Advanced Science.

Maintaining a constant body temperature is one of the most critical requirements for living and working. High-temperature environments elevate energy consumption, leading to increased heat stress, thus exacerbating chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, mental health issues and asthma, while also increasing the risk of infectious disease transmission. According to the World Health Organisation, globally, there were approximately 489,000 heat-related deaths annually between 2000 and 2019, with 45% occurring in Asia and 36% in Europe.

SpaceX’s Starship launches at the company’s Starbase facility near Boca Chica, Texas, have allegedly been contaminating local bodies of water with mercury for years. The news arrives in an exclusive CNBC report on August 12, which cites internal documents and communications between local Texas regulators and the Environmental Protection Agency.

SpaceX’s fourth Starship test launch in June was its most successful so far—but the world’s largest and most powerful rocket ever built continues to wreak havoc on nearby Texas communities, wildlife, and ecosystems. And after repeated admonishments, reviews, and ignored requests, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) have had enough.

The issues stem from a complaint filed to the TCEQ just over a year ago on August 6, 2023. The letter reportedly cited 14 separate incidents regarding “environmental impacts from the Facility’s deluge system” stemming from “discharging deluge water without TCEQ authorization.”

Former President Donald Trump says that his campaign was hacked by the Iranian government—a claim that followed news on Friday that Microsoft had evidence suggesting an Iranian hacking group had breached a presidential campaign official’s account.

The breach is the result of a “spear phishing” email sent by an individual associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps back in June, according to Microsoft. It was one of four examples the tech company provided of Iranian hackers penetrating campaign and election infrastructure “in an apparent effort to stir up controversy or sway voters—especially in swing states.”

Coinciding with Trump’s announcement, Politico reported over the weekend that it had received emails from an anonymous account appearing to contain what the news outlet described as “internal communications from a senior Trump campaign official.”

Pakistan’s growing reliance on advanced technology is creating challenges for Indian security agencies in countering threats from across the border.

Despite India’s efforts to secure its airspace by installing more anti-drone systems and CCTV cameras, these measures have proven inadequate in light of Pakistan’s increasingly advanced drone incursions.

In response to India’s anti-drone measures, Pakistani entities sending drones into Indian territory have stepped up their efforts. Indian authorities have revealed that since last year, the number of drones crossing from Pakistan has not only doubled, but these drones have also become smaller, can fly up to 1 kilometre high, and are difficult to detect.

There is a Chinese connection to this threat as well. Most of these are made in China.

In a recent joint search operation, BSF troops and the Punjab Police recovered a made-in-China DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone from Punjab’s Tarn Taran district.

Columbia researchers discovered that bacteria can create free-floating, temporary genes outside their chromosomes, challenging the long-held belief that all genetic instructions are contained within the genome. This finding opens the possibility that similar genes could exist in humans, potentially revolutionizing our understanding of genetics and gene editing.

Columbia researchers found that bacteria create temporary, free-floating genes outside their genome, a breakthrough that could reshape genetics and gene therapy.

Since the genetic code was first deciphered in the 1960s, our genes have appeared like an open book. By interpreting our chromosomes as linear sequences of letters, akin to sentences in a novel, we can identify the genes within our genome and understand how changes in a gene’s code influence health.

This linear rule of life was thought to govern all forms of life—from humans down to bacteria.

But a new study by Columbia University researchers shows that bacteria break that rule and can create free-floating and ephemeral genes, raising the possibility that similar genes exist outside of our own genome.

“What this discovery upends is the notion that the chromosome has the complete set of instructions that cells use to produce proteins,” says Samuel Sternberg, associate professor of biochemistry & molecular biology at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, who led the research with Stephen Tang, an MD/PhD student at the medical school.

Musk’s Trump Talk on X: After Glitchy Start, a Two-Hour Ramble

At 8:35 p.m. Eastern time on Monday, a live audio stream on X of a conversation between Elon Musk and former President Donald J. Trump flickered to life after a 35-minute delay — but only for a moment.

Mr. Trump’s mic came on, and a shuffling sound was heard. A second later, his mic cut out. Mr. Musk’s account, which had been logged in and ready, then momentarily disappeared from the conversation entirely.

Seven minutes later, the glitches appeared to be resolved and the discussion began. Mr. Musk, who has endorsed Mr. Trump’s presidential run, and Mr. Trump greeted each other as “Donald” and “Elon.” They then began a friendly chat about immigration, the economy and President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. The two men talked for over two hours with more than one million people listening in at the same time, according to X.

“I congratulate you,” Mr. Trump, who appeared to lisp at times, said to Mr. Musk about the livestream’s audience. “Do I get paid for this or what?”

The potential for artificial intelligence (AI) humanoid robots in factories and stores is sparking debate among experts on the future of work and commerce.

While companies explore humanoid robots for tasks from assembly to customer service, opinions vary widely on their adoption rate and implications. The consensus among experts leans toward gradual integration rather than rapid revolution, with key challenges in technology development, workforce adaptation, and customer acceptance still to be overcome.

“As Henry Ford said, ‘Why is it that I always get a whole person when all I want is a pair of hands?’ This sentiment applies here too,” Ding Zhao, associate professor of mechanical engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, told PYMNTS. This skepticism highlights the ongoing debate about the most effective forms of automation in various industries.

Dunkin’ Donuts, trading as Dunkin’ since rebranding, is facing a boycott from many users on X, formerly Twitter, after the chief executive of the video platform Rumble alleged that the fast-food chain declined to advertise with them due to the “right wing culture of the site being too polarising.”

Rumble is joining Elon Musk’s social media company, X, in suing a group of advertisers over allegations that they withheld business from the social media firms because of the right-wing content hosted on their platforms.

On Wednesday, the hashtag #BoycottDunkinDonuts gained significant traction on X.

Rumble chief executive Chris Pavlovski wrote on X that the company approached Dunkin’ and its parent company, Inspire Brands, to consider placing advertising on the site because its audience “over indexes with coffee consumption.”

Pavlovski posted a screenshot of what appeared to be a redacted email reply from the company. The screenshot did not show who sent the email, but Pavlovski’s post implied it was from an advertising executive at Dunkin’ or Inspire Brands, which also owns Arby’s and Sonic Drive-In.

Research from the University of Michigan has uncovered changes in the genomes of early bird ancestors following the mass extinction caused by an asteroid 66 million years ago, identifying “genomic fossils” that illustrate significant DNA shifts. These changes, crucial for bird evolution, reveal how such catastrophic events have deep and lasting impacts on biodiversity and organismal biology.

Research reveals that the end-Cretaceous mass extinction significantly altered bird genomes, contributing to the evolution and diversity of today’s birds. By analyzing genomic fossils and evolutionary shifts, the study provides deeper understanding of how mass extinctions shape life on Earth.

Shortly after an asteroid struck Earth 66 million years ago, life for non-avian dinosaurs came to an end, but the evolutionary story for the early ancestors of birds began.

A ruling by the Minnesota Supreme Court has many, including this writer, believing the state of Minnesota is under siege by a foreign power that has taken it over from within. The court just ruled that Americans, according to their unconstitutional, blatantly illegal ruling, that Americans cannot brandish a weapon in self-defense if it is “reasonably possible to retreat.”

The ruling means that if a person rushes you with a knife, for instance, you cannot pull out a weapon to stop them from rushing you, you have to attempt to run away, risking significant harm to yourself, an outcome this seditious Marxist court seems to desire in an effort to create instability in this land that leads cowards to beg for more state control over our lives to protect us from the violence rulings like this create.

The court ruled that you cannot brandish a deadly weapon even when under attack if you can reasonably retreat. A dissenting opinion called it unprecedented in American history.

In a split decision, the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that even when a person is threatened or under attack they can’t brandish a deadly weapon if it is “reasonably possible to retreat.”

A dissent called the ruling unprecedented in American judicial history.

The case stemmed from a knife and machete altercation in downtown Minneapolis, zeroing in on the specific question of whether a person can claim self-defense when they are charged with felony second-degree assault–fear with a dangerous weapon. Under Minnesota law, a person commits assault–fear by acting with the “intent to cause fear in another of immediate bodily harm or death.”

Self-defense typically involves a defendant claiming the reason they pulled out a deadly weapon was because they felt threatened by another person.

On a June night in 2021, Earley Romero Blevins of Minneapolis got into an altercation with a man and woman he knew on the light-rail platform near U.S. Bank Stadium. Words were exchanged between Blevins and the woman and an argument ensued. The other man had a knife and told Blevins to come into the platform shelter away from surveillance cameras so he could “slice Blevins’ throat.”

Blevins then pulled a machete out of his waistband and moved toward the man and woman while holding the machete. Another man attempted to intervene and Blevins began yelling and swinging the machete at them for about one minute, causing them to retreat.

Elon Musk PAC being investigated by Michigan secretary of state for potential violations

A political action committee backed by billionaire Elon Musk is being investigated by the Michigan secretary of state’s office amid efforts to collect voter data.

Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has said he created and helped fund the America PAC, which is supporting former President Donald Trump. Musk has a net worth of over $225 billion, according to Forbes.

The committee has been acquiring detailed voter information from those living in Michigan and other battleground states after people submit their personal data through a section on the PAC’s website that says “register to vote.”

After clicking on the “register to vote” tab on America PAC’s website, users in states like Michigan can submit a ZIP code, address and phone number. People with a Michigan address are brought to a page that says “thank you” and asks users to “complete the form below” to help wrap up the voter registration process. As of Sunday afternoon, though, there was no other form to complete below the words “thank you.”

Elon Musk calls PM ‘two-tier Keir’ over police response to UK riots

Elon Musk has called the prime minister “two-tier Keir” in reference to the conspiracy theory that police are treating white far-right “protesters” more harshly than minority groups.

Downing Street would not engage again with the billionaire owner of X, having previously said his comments about a potential civil war in the UK had “no justification”. Since that criticism, Musk has been repeatedly targeting Keir Starmer on his social media platform.

However, the Guardian understands Labour MPs have been privately warned not to engage in debate on Twitter about the far-right violence and to instead amplify calls for unity.

In a letter to MPs from the chief whip Alan Campbell, he says it is “important that you do not do anything that risks amplifying misinformation on social media and do not get drawn into debates online.”

A team of US and Korean researchers has developed a 3D-printing ink that makes easy-to-recycle structures without the need for any heat or light.

The ink, made from a polymer, solidifies on contact with salt and dissolves back into re-usable ink on contact with fresh water.

The researchers say their ink could be useful for disposable electronics, robotic components, and prototyping.

They’ve published their findings in Nature Communications.

The structure created via 3D-printing with a re-usable polymer ink. Credit: Donghwan Ji

Polymer inks are useful tools for 3D-printing complex, small-scale devices. But they typically need high amounts of energy or extra solvents to print properly.

The researchers’ method uses a polymer called poly(N-isopropylacrylamide), or PNIPAM. This is a non-toxic substance used by the pharmaceutical industry for drug delivery systems.

PNIPAM dissolves in water to make a liquid, but it solidifies when it comes into contact with a salty calcium chloride solution.

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares is co-leading a 21-state coalition supporting a national ban on the social media app TikTok.

According to a press release from Miyares’ office, he and Austin Knudsen, the Attorney General of Montana, are the co-leaders of this multi-state coalition.

They have filed a brief asking the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia to uphold legislation passed by the U.S. Congress that would require TikTok to either divest from its parent company, ByteDance, or be banned from use in America.

This is in response to TikTok and ByteDance filing a lawsuit against the federal government in an attempt to block this legislation.

“The attorneys general are asking the court to deny TikTok’s petition, asserting that Congress has the power to act in this matter of national security and foreign affairs,” the release reads.

The attorneys general believe that the app presents “significant threats to both national security and consumers’ privacy.”

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has ordered the deployment additional warships, naval cruisers and fighter jets to the Middle East ahead of what is expected to be a regional escalation starting with a massive attack against Israel by Iran and its proxies from Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Iraq, the Palestinian Authority and Gaza.

“Since the horrific Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, the Secretary of Defense has reiterated that the United States will protect our personnel and interests in the region, including our ironclad commitment to the defense of Israel,” Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said Friday in a statement on America’s force posture in the Middle East.

“Secretary Austin has ordered adjustments to US military posture designed to improve US force protection, to increase support for the defense of Israel, and to ensure the United States is prepared to respond to various contingencies,” Singh said.

Austin has ordered the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN Carrier Strike Group to replace the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT Carrier Strike Group, currently on deployment in the Central Command (CENTCOM) area of responsibility.

In addition, Austin ordered additional ballistic missile defense-capable cruisers and destroyers to the US European Command (EUCOM) and US Central Command (CENTCOM) regions, and increasing US readiness to deploy additional land-based ballistic missile defense.

Hezbollah attacks Israeli military headquarters with squadron of drones

The Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah says it has targeted an Israeli military headquarters in the northern occupied Palestinian territories with a squadron of suicide drones.

Hezbollah said in a statement on Monday morning that the aerial attack was launched from Lebanon on Israel’s newly established 91st Division in the Elite Barracks, located in the Upper Galilee region.

The resistance movement added that a number of the regime’s troops were killed or injured in the drone strike.

The fighters of the Islamic resistance targeted “the positions and settlements of the officers and soldiers, hitting them directly and inflicting of them a number of killed and wounded.”

The resistance movement noted that the air raid was carried out in support of Gaza and in retaliation for the regime’s assassinations of its members during attacks on several Lebanese towns.

Since the start of the Israeli genocide in Gaza, Hezbollah and the regime’s military have been exchanging fires along Lebanon’s southern border.

Also on Sunday, Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets towards the northern side of the occupied Palestinian territories to avenge a deadly Israeli attack that had earlier targeted the southern part of Lebanon.

The movement fired more than 50 rockets towards the Beit Hillel settlement in the Upper Galilee region, triggering a fire there, various Israeli media outlets reported.

BREAKING: Around 50 Rockets Fired From Southern Lebanon Towards Israel

Footage is circulating of the Iron Dome intercepting the reported missiles.

The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon announced early Sunday including a new settlement in northern occupied Palestine to its target bank in response to the Israeli attacks on civilians in Lebanon on Saturday.

In a statement, Hezbollah said that “in response to the Israeli enemy’s attacks on the steadfast southern villages and the safe homes, particularly the attacks on the villages of Kafr Kila and Deir Siryan that resulted in civilian injuries,” it added the settlement of Beit Hillel to its list of targets for the first time, targeting it with dozens of Katyusha rockets.

The last time Israel went to war with Hezbollah in 2006, it threatened to “turn Lebanon’s clock back 20 years” and drive the militant movement from the border. When the conflict ended a month later, Hezbollah had been battered and bruised, but its fighters remained in place.

The back-to-back assassinations of senior figures in Hezbollah and its ally Hamas in the past week have intensified fears that the two arch foes – which have traded blows with increasing intensity since Hamas’ October 7 attack – are once more sliding towards all-out war.
