Egypt is developing a plan to rebuild Gaza, countering Trump’s call to depopulate the territory– abcnews.go.com

CAIRO — Egypt is developing a plan to rebuild Gaza without forcing Palestinians out of the strip in a counter to President Donald Trump’s proposal to depopulate the territory so the U.S. can take it over.

Egypt’s state-run Al-Ahram newspaper said the proposal calls for establishing “secure areas” within Gaza where Palestinians can live initially while Egyptian and international construction firms remove and rehabilitate the strip’s infrastructure.

Egyptian officials have been discussing the plan with European diplomats as well as with Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, according to two Egyptian officials and Arab and Western diplomats. They are also discussing ways to fund the reconstruction, including an international conference on Gaza reconstruction, said one of the Egyptian officials and an Arab diplomat.

The officials and diplomats spoke on condition of anonymity because the proposal is still being negotiated.

The proposal comes after an international uproar over Trump’s call for the removal of Gaza’s population of some 2 million Palestinians. Trump said the United States would take over the Gaza Strip and rebuild it into a “Riviera of the Middle East,” though Palestinians would not be allowed back.

PBS “On Democracy” Series Analyzes Trump’s Autocratic Tendencies in Second Term– www.newsbusters.org

The online title to the latest “On Democracy” segment on Monday’s PBS News Hour gave away the slant of the newly hatched series – fear porn to attract liberal viewers during the second Trump Administration: “How the start of Trump’s second term looks like some autocracies.”

Anchor Geoff Bennett: President Trump’s social media post over the weekend, “He who saves his country does not violate any law,” implying that he is above the law, triggered alarm bells from experts who were already concerned about the legal and constitutional boundaries tested in President Trump’s first few weeks in office.

The “experts” for liberal media are liberals that are never described as liberals.

PBS’s guest fear-spreader on Monday evening was professor Kim Lane Scheppele of Princeton University, who “studies the rise and fall of democratic governments….” Don’t say professor Scheppele isn’t adaptable — she also appeared on the News Hour in 2023 (alongside nutty professor Cynthia Miller-Idriss) to warn of threats to democracy, but from the House GOP.

Co-anchor Amna Nawaz: So, many of President Trump’s actions we have seen so far that are already being challenged on the basis of their legality or constitutionality, these are things he promised to do, said he would do as president. He would say now this is what voters want him to do and so he’s doing it as fast as he can through executive orders. How do you see it?

Kim Lane Scheppele: ….A lot of these are things he promised, but democracy isn’t just about getting elected and meeting promises. You have to fulfill the promises, if you’re going to do them, in the proper legal way….

The anchor upped the ante.

Nawaz: This is also a president who has praised strongmen in other countries, authoritarian leaders in other nations, people like Vladimir Putin in Russia, Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil, Viktor Orban in Hungary. As someone who has lived in both Russia and Hungary, are you seeing patterns here that mirror what you saw there?

Scheppele: Yeah, absolutely. So the thing about these strongmen leaders is that what makes them strong is that they have managed to escape legal constraints on their power. So they have neutralized their parliaments so that they don’t talk back to them. They have captured their courts so that they don’t override them. They have altered the election law so that no one can get rid of them….

Jack Smith Could Be In Legal Trouble After ‘Highly Questionable’ Disclosure, Analyst Says– trendingpoliticsnews.com

Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett stated that former special counsel Jack Smith — who headed up the Biden Department of Justice’s criminal cases against President Trump — should be investigated by Attorney General Pam Bondi over a “cozy arraignment” with outside attorneys.

Smith disclosed Friday that he had received $140,000 in pro bono legal services from the prestigious Washington, D.C. law firm Covington & Burling prior to his departure from the DOJ, according to a report from Politico. It is not precisely clear why Smith decided to seek outside legal advice, though President Trump has directed the DOJ to end politically-motivated prosecutions and investigate any Biden era employees who engaged in such conduct.

Attorney General Bondi has set up a working group to investigate the matter and instructed members to probe “weaponization by Special Counsel Jack Smith and his staff who spent more than $50 million targeting President Trump, and the prosecutors and law enforcement personnel who participated in the unprecedented raid on President Trump’s home.”

On Monday, Fox Business host Elizabeth McDonald asked Jarrett about the recent disclosure and whether it raises any legal, civil or ethics questions.

“Yeah, I mean, just taking this gift, for example, from a firm aligned with Democrats only fortifies the evidence of political bias and maybe corruption that drove the lawfare campaign against Trump,” Jarrett said. “This cozy arrangement, I think, demands further disclosure, more investigation.”

Who are the frontrunners to be elected next pontiff after Pope Francis? – New York Post

As Pope Francis, the oldest pope in over a century, continues to decline in health, speculation is percolating as to who will next be elected as the most powerful Catholic in the world.

The 88-year-old pontiff developed pneumonia in both lungs over the weekend and will remain hospitalized as he battles the infection, according to the Vatican.

Technically any Roman Catholic man can be elected as the heir to St. Peter, though invariably one of the 253 cardinals from around the world will don the papal tiara.

Jonathan Turley Thinks Dems’ Efforts To Stop Trump In Defense Of Democracy Are, Well, Actually Threatening Democracy– americanactionnews.com

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley said Monday the Democrats are the ones threatening democracy through their efforts to stop President Donald Trump from shrinking the size of the federal government and eliminating wasteful spending.

Congressional Democrats and liberal activists have continued to rage over Trump and Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) head Elon Musk’s efforts to cut the federal government’s billions of dollars in wasteful spending and carry out mass layoffs to make agencies more efficient. Turley said the Democrats are attempting to stop Trump from upholding his promises to the American people in the name of democracy, when in actuality, their legal efforts are the true threat to Democratic institutions.

The Movement to Merge Parts of Oregon Into ‘Greater Idaho’ Just Took Another Step Closer to Becoming a Reality | The Gateway Pundit– www.thegatewaypundit.com

Excerpt:

As the Gateway pundit has previously reported, the concept of Greater Idaho is an effort by some parts of the state of Oregon to secede and become part of the state of Idaho.

The reason people are pushing for this is because the eastern part of Oregon is conservative and the folks who live there are tired of having to live under progressive rule from people in the western part of the state and the far left city of Portland.

The movement has made slow progress with mostly small moves, but it just took a bigger step towards becoming real.

The New York Post reported:

Oregon effort to shift border, join conservative Idaho gains momentum with GOP bill

Over the past several years, the Greater Idaho movement has tried to create the conditions needed for about 13 counties to join the conservative Gem State next door.

Greater Idaho began putting such measures up for votes in various counties in 2020 and this month saw Republican lawmakers file a bill in the state legislature that would create a task force to study “moving” the border.

State Rep. Mark Owens, R-Malheur, put forward HB 3844, a measure that creates and directs a task force to document the impacts of relocating the Idaho border and requires a report be presented to lawmakers in Salem…

Greater Idaho president Mike McCarter said in a statement: “We are encouraged to see the representatives of Eastern Oregon coming together to advocate for their voters by bringing these bills to the Legislature. The people of Eastern Oregon have made clear they want to explore moving the border and joining Idaho.

Just one major leftist organization highlights the alleged ways that USAID has funded the dramatic spreading of “wokeness” into American’s everyday lives. One organization, The Organized Crime Corruption and Reporting Project, was funded by both USAID and George Soros’ Open Society Foundation. This organization has sued republicans in office and produced a report that led to President Donald Trump’s first impeachment.

… USAID and Open Society Foundations jointly funded the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project—an organization that attacked conservatives for criticizing Soros and that published the report that sparked the first Trump impeachment. USAID’s connections to the project raise uncomfortable questions about whether the agency was trying to oust Trump.

The Organized Crime Corruption and Reporting Project also attacked Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J.; Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah; and Mike Gonzalez, a senior fellow at the Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation. These conservatives made the mistake of noticing that the U.S. Embassy to Macedonia had selected Soros’ Open Society Foundations as the main implementer for USAID projects in the Eastern European country.

According to Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., USAID awarded a $2.54 million contract to Open Society for training in “civic activism,” “mobilization,” and “civic engagement” in Macedonia in February 2017.

The East West Management Institute—which has long listed Open Society Foundations as a donor and implementing partner and which received $31.2 million from USAID in the last full fiscal year ending on Sept. 30—launched court changes in Albania that critics allege resulted in the prosecution of Albanian opposition leader Sali Berisha, silencing the opponent of the country’s socialist prime minister.

As for its role in the Woketopus, Open Society Foundations or its partners, the Open Society Policy Center, the Open Society Institute, or the Foundation to Promote Open Society have funded:

  • the American Civil Liberties Union (which pushed open borders in the Biden administration)
  • the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the Southern Poverty Law Center (which pushed the weaponization of federal law enforcement agencies against conservatives)
  • the Human Rights Campaign (which pushed gender ideology)
  • the Sierra Club (which pushed climate alarmism)

The Tides Foundation

USAID has awarded more than $27 million in grants to the Tides Center, which forms part of the Left’s dark money network I expose in “The Woketopus” along with its sister groups the Tides Foundation and Tides Advocacy.

USAID awarded the Tides Center four grants: a $24.7 million grant in 2016, of which $20 million has been spent; a $1.5 million grant in 2016, of which $147,000 has been spent; a $700,000 grant in 2014 that appears not to have been fulfilled; and another $150,000 grant that appears not to have been fulfilled.

The District Judges now routinely shutting down President Donald Trump’s executive actions come from a class of judges that is 60 percent Democrat, and much of that is thanks to a floury of last-minute appointments by President Joe Biden.

These appointments could have been reduced significantly had republicans done more to slow down the appointment process.

Biden’s focus on confirming judges reshaped courts as Democrats challenge Trump agenda – USA TODAY

Excerpt:

Before Democrats surrendered control of Congress and the White House to Republicans in January, they celebrated the fact that Joe Biden had put more judges on the federal bench than any recent president in a single term.

“Judges shape our lives,” Biden said on social media in December, touting the confirmation of his 235th judicial nominee and what he called “the legacy I’ll leave with the men and women I’ve appointed.”

That legacy has become even more important for Democrats now that the courts are their best chance of thwarting President Donald Trump’s efforts to significantly downsize and reshape the federal government in ways that are testing his legal authority to do so.

Nearly six out of 10 full-time federal district judges – the first judicial layer to consider the growing number of lawsuits against Trump’s actions – have now been appointed by Democratic presidents, according to the Brookings Institution. At the start of Biden’s presidency, the appointments were nearly evenly divided after Trump picked almost as many judges as Biden later got confirmed.

At the next level of judicial scrutiny – the appeals courts – the number of full-time judges appointed by Democratic presidents has pulled even with those appointed by Republicans.

But while Biden got to fill one Supreme Court vacancy, his choice – Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson – did not change the ideological makeup of the court as she replaced Justice Stephen Breyer, who had been appointed by President Bill Clinton, a Democrat.

How China’s lead in quantum computing puts us all at risk of being controlled by the CCP police state.

China’s Quantum Strategy and The Threat of Global Data-Centric Authoritarianism – The Quantum Insider

China’s progress in quantum computing and communications could undermine encryption standards and accelerate the global spread of data-driven surveillance, according to a report from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). The report, Data-Centric Authoritarianism: How China’s Development of Frontier Technologies Could Globalize Repression, warns that emerging technologies, including quantum, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital currencies, are solidifying Beijing’s tech-enabled governance model while influencing authoritarian regimes worldwide.

The analysts suggest that China’s quantum advances could shift the balance of cybersecurity, particularly through the potential to break conventional encryption and the export of quantum-secured communication systems. The implications of this extends beyond espionage and state surveillance to corporate data security, financial transactions, and democratic resilience in an era of accelerating technological competition.

Data Security Under Threat

China has dedicated substantial resources to quantum research, arguably outpacing U.S. government funding in key areas of quantum computing and cryptography. The NED report states that China’s investment in quantum technology is times greater than the U.S. planned government spending as of 2023. Researchers at China’s Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences, alongside firms such as Origin Quantum and QuantumCTek, are leading efforts to build quantum processors and secure communication networks.

Rare earths, controlled by China, are increasingly driving US geo-strategy – Agencia EFE

United States mediation in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine highlights Washington’s concern about the scarcity of rare earths, which have multiple applications in electronic and industrial materials and processes.

In the past five years, the market for critical minerals has doubled to 320 billion dollars and will likely double again by the end of the decade, according to a Goldman Sachs report.

Supply remains concentrated in China, which the same analysts estimate refines 85-90% of rare earths and produces 92% of rare earth magnets.

Enrique Feas, a researcher at the Real Instituto El Cano, told EFE that these materials are crucial for industrial production and that China has used its supply as a “warning” in the face of trade tensions.
